Droptop: dropdown app launcher for Windows by Virginityrocks Droptop: dropdown app launcher for Windows by Virginityrocks
Current version 2.99g - RELEASE CANDIDATE
View the new Droptop website: virginityrocks.wix.com/droptop

Droptop, formally Desktop+, is a full-featured dropdown menu app launcher designed with the FileView plugin for Rainmeter. Droptop allows you to catalogue your applications into scrollable groups by taking directory, filename, and icon information from Windows Explorer, allowing easy adding and removing shortcuts, renaming, and icon support through Windows. Easily drag & drop your shortcuts into Droptop's folders to add shortcuts, or rename, delete, or change a shortcut's icon all through the standard Windows interface.

*Requires Rainmeter version 3.2 or higher to install. Download from Rainmeter.net.

*Minor issues with Droptop and Rainmeter Beta 3.3 are evident and currently being resolved. Please use Rainmeter 3.2 if you find these minor issues troublesome. This notice will be removed when the issues have been resolved.

Recommended tip: Due to an under-developed DesktopWorkArea feature in Rainmeter, I recommend using the program WorkspaceUtilities with these settings. A higher "Size (px):" will need to be used for users with a higher DPI setting. This will prevent windows from overlapping the Droptop dropdown menu bar.

If you do not want to use this application, try enabling the built-in "Autofix workspace change" option under "Other Settings" in the Droptop settings menu. This will automatically minimize and un-minimize windows whenever the workarea has changed.

• Easy setup. Gathers icon, filename, and directory information automatically through Windows. That means no opening notepad, and no running around looking for icons online.
• Toolbars behave like standard folders. You can change how you would like to sort your files: by name, by date, by size, or by type. Easily configure each toolbar individually through the Droptop settings menu.
• Want to rename a shortcut, change the icon, remove, or add a new shortcut? Just open the folder and rename it. Right-click properties >> Change icon. Delete the shortcut. Drag a new shortcut into the folder. Droptop and the FileView plugin do the rest.
• Toolbars themselves can be renamed. Up to 12 toolbars can be used at one time. Customize them entirely to your imagination.
• Designed for all versions of Windows (Except XP), and resizes automatically to adjust to any screen resolution.
• Ultra-rich settings menu allows full configuration of the toolbars and the dropdown menu through a handy GUI. No notepad required. Simple to use for new users, and loaded with options for professionals.

Large thank you to Elestel & Brian F. for the FileList and FileView plugin respectively, Jsmorley and Kaelri respectively, for the Mail and RainFile addons used in this skin, as well as NikolaRabra for the setup menu design. A respectable thank you to the makers of Omnimo for some much needed inspiration, and the great community @ Rainmeter.net for helpful assistance. And a thank you to friends and family who put up with the time it took me to make this a reality.

Other thanks goes to DigitalSpectrum, and eclectic-tech.

I try to add more search menus.

Could you explain why we need this code there? I think, it resets my NumberOfItems to 2, but I need 4.

[AnalyzeTotal]
Measure=Calc
Formula=FileCount+FolderCount
IfAboveValue=4
IfAboveAction=[!WriteKeyValue Variables NumberOfItems 5]
IfEqualValue=4
IfEqualAction=[!WriteKeyValue Variables NumberOfItems ([FileCount]+[FolderCount]+1)]
IfBelowValue=4
IfBelowAction=[!WriteKeyValue Variables NumberOfItems ([FileCount]+[FolderCount]+1)]

[CompareTotal]
Measure=Calc
Formula=(FileCount+FolderCount<>#SearchCount#)
IfEqualValue=1
IfEqualAction=[!WriteKeyValue Variables SearchCount ([FileCount]+[FolderCount]) "#@#GlobalVar\UserSettings.inc"][!Refresh]

I just updated from Desktop+, as I wanted the style changes that better match Windows 10 and I am having a slight issue. With the old desktop there was a setting under "Visual features/Show more options..." that allowed an offset for the taskbar on the left. Have you removed this feature or am I just too dumb to find where it is hiding now?

All in all, I am pleased with the update and the previous one has entirely changed how I use my computer. Keep up the good work.

After some digging, I found the variable in "\@ resources\GlobalVar\Control.inc" as TaskBarSizeH. I set it to 62 for Windows 10. It works now with the taskbar on the left, as everything else auto adjusts.

This makes me think I was stupid and missed the option in the menu somewhere.

Hi there,

I really love your skin since the early Desktop+ releases, it really helped my to complete my current setup, so I'm kind of dependent on it.

The problem is, that I'm currently encountering random rainmeter-crashes when using droptop. I tried to fix them, but I really can't find a problem. When I'm using any other skin, there are no problems, but the second I open droptop, rainmeter starts to crash every ~2 minutes ....

I'm using the newest version of rainmeter (3.2 and 3.3) and the newest version of droptop.

I would be really thankful If you could help me,
regards-

Thanks for letting me know. Could you give me more details?

What version of Windows are you running?
Does this happen is 3.2 and 3.3, or just in 3.3?

I haven't seen the issue yet, though I've seen crashes in 3.3. If you have any more information let me know. And just so you're aware there is a bug report feature in the settings menu that I check more regularly when working on droptop.

I already did that, yet after a few hours the crashes started again.

I use a slightly modified Win7.

64 bit, but I seem to have solved the problem. The skin crashes, when I change to standard folders to folders that are located on a external (encrypted) hard drive.

I'm really loving this app launcher! It's almost perfectly for what I am looking for :)
I have my  taskbar auto-hide on top, with a solid color and only the active apps left and the system tray apps right. Everything your skin delivers I removed from the traditional taskbar. This makes for a very clean look, thanks!

Could you help me with the following?
I want the toolbars to open when I hover over the menu instead of clicking it, and close when I leave them.
Sofar I get it to open by substituting LeftMouseDownAction with MouseOverAction in DropDownBar.ini, but then can't close the menu except for when I click the topbar or any non-modified menu (OnUnfocusAction is only triggered if it had focus in the first place). Using MouseLeaveAction makes the menus flicker and not working....
Could you help me with this one? Ideally I want the menu to disappear when the mouse is no longer hovering that menu, and appear when it is hovering over it, regardless of where the focus is right now.
This auto-openening of those menu's would make the experience even smoother :)

Also, my droptop settings menu -> media player settings run off the screen. Its apparantly too long for my laptop screen of 1366 x 768.. I can see up to half of "enable rainbow visualizer". Which also means that any other future setting that is too long / too low on the list will have this problem.

Other than those things, it works perfectly :D

Try going into...

resources >> Meters >> DropdownMeters.inc
and
resources >> Meters >> SystemTrayMeters.inc

and adding MouseLeaveAction=[!Hide #CURRENTCONFIG#] to the [Rainmeter] section of each .inc file. Save and refresh Rainmeter.

You will also need to replace the "LeftMouseDownAction" of each [Toolbar] 1 through 12, [Settings], [AlarmIcon], [MailText], [VolumeIcon], etc. in DropdownBar.ini to "MouseOverAction".

I just tested this and it works 100%.

A triforce is an excellent suggestion! I'll include it in the next update. But if you want to switch out the Apple icon, try right-clicking on the icon. There are 6 icons to choose from.

Version 3.0 is being delayed due to some issues (and resolutions) around Windows 10. Some of the new features that will be available in the final version of Droptop include:

- Autohide: Droptop will appear only when the cursor is held at the top of the screen. Users can choose the hotspot to either be on the top-left, top-right, center, or the entire top of the screen, and set a time delay of 0, 0.5, 1, or 1.5 seconds. Windows 10 will be by default set to Autohide. Always Show will still be the default option for Windows XP through Windows 8.

- Square corners option for dropdown menus: This will be the default for Windows 10 on, to match the general theme of Windows. This can be switched back to rounded corners in the settings menu.
