Desktop+: Drop Launcher for Windows by Virginityrocks Desktop+: Drop Launcher for Windows by Virginityrocks
Current version 31x (See Changelog)

Featuring FileView for Rainmeter, Desktop+ is a Drop Launcher designed for Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Catalog your applications into scrollable groups. Organize and beautify your desktop, while keeping it simple, productive and professional. Customize and create your own themes from a wide range of options. Play with the many features, and feel free to cut apart, recreate and piece together your own skins using this new reformed version of Desktop+.

Once you use this skin, you'll start to wonder how you ever got around Windows without it. *Requires the Rainmeter 3.0 version r2081 or higher to install. Download from Rainmeter.net.

Recommended tip: Due to an under-developed DesktopWorkArea feature in Rainmeter, I recommend using the program DesktopCoral with these settings.

• No manual entry of data or arduous setup routine
• Display apps on the desktop in an ordered and logical format
• Access games, pinned apps, bookmarks, control panel and documents with ease

• Designed for Windows XP + Windows Vista + Windows 7 and Windows 8.
• Support for resolutions from 1024x768 to 1920x1080+

• Feature-rich setup menu to fully customize your desktop+ colour and appearance
• Takes advantage of many new Rainmeter features and plugins from Rainmeter 2.5 and 3.0

Large thank you to Elestel & Brian F. for the FileList and FileView plugin respectively, as well as Jsmorley and Kaelri, respectively, for the RainRGB and RainFile addons used in this skin. A respectable thank you to the makers of Omnimo for some much needed inspiration, and the great community @ Rainmeter.net for helpful assistance. And a loving thank you to my fiancé for being my personal beta tester.

Other thanks goes to DigitalSpectrum, and eclectic-tech.

Luxury visualization excellent skin. Answer if not difficult.
How to change the width of application windows on the taskbar, for example I want to date is displayed in the following format: day, month, day (% B), the time and the year 2015, how to do it? and how it is possible to add your application memory meter etc.

what is it I have to edit to make it sit behind all my other windows? I have looked and looked and im not sure what value it is to make it behave like the taskbar and resize my maximized windows. I love this bar but I would love it so much more if it didnt presume to take up a portion of my screen. Id like it to sit behind like all the other skins and I can click it when I need it. Good job on the skin though. I was trying to make this my self because I couldnt find what I wanted for the life of me untill I stumbled here.

So uh, I'm not getting the Start Screen background option anymore? There's only the Tucked Away feature. Is this intentional?

I really don't like one particular thing, and that is the fact that the skin eats up part of the desktop. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to have the bar be at the bottom of my applications, and the fact that it reserves space for the Windows taskbar, which I have hidden for the same reason of wanting to have MORE space available. There are also a few bugs here and there, but those are relatively minor. Other than that, I liked it, but I'll skip on using it because it is very irritating to have an application do what IT wants, not what I want...

I apologize if I sound rude --- not my intention, just a little sad because I really liked your skin's functionality otherwise...

The current version (unreleased for now) has solved the disappearing problem some users have been having, but the version will not come out until the new features are complete. It does away with the rainfocus plugin, and offers better compatibility with auto-hidden taskbars. It also has a lot of new features, especially with the system tray. I invite anyone to come up with suggestions for the next version of the skin.

Hey there, so I really love this skin and the first time I used it it worked fine. The second time I set it up it had the quick time out bug. So I decided that with my limited Software Engineer skills I would try some stuff out.

I checked which skins were active. I selected the desktop+ processes/checkworkarea.ini. I unloaded but of course it did indeed refresh and reload after a couple minutes. So I went into this ini file and deleted the variable that causes the skin refresh. I can't recall the name. Its maybe the third or fourth variable at the top.

I'm assuming its rather important and will most likely break some other part of your skin. But this worked. It no longer has an issue with time outs and I can hide my taskbar at the bottom. It doesn't refresh itself so far seeing as I directly edited the file. Perhaps you can narrow down the issue with this information?

i seem to have an issue, i tried it, and did not like it, so i disabled it, but now there is a bar at the top of my screen, which none of my windows can use, its not there in fullscreen, but everthing else has it. i used it, dislike it, disabled it, and i cannot get the bar to go away, so far, i have been lucky, with a certain windows app, making it go away, but it returns as soon as i restart the pc. any ideas? also, sometimes my taskbar is hiding, and the windows, will still show the gap, as if my windows are not registering, that my taskbar is hiding.

It's great, however i'm having the same issue as a lot of users : tabs close by themselves after 2-3 seconds. I can't figure out what's wrong, any help would be appreciated.

Edit : This comes from CheckWorkArea.ini, if disabled the problem disappears. However Rainmeter reloads it by itself every 5 minutes, and if suppressed a pop-up saying "CheckWorkArea.ini is missing" pops every 5 minutes.

There is an option in settings called "Always show Desktop+". Disabling that should help.

One small thing I noticed is that if you have a rainmeter skin with clickable links behind the menu when it drops down, it will click threw the menu running both the menu item you clicked and the link that happens to be behind it. At first I thought I was losing my mind as I could not figure out why news pages loaded each time I selected a menu item lol. (I have a RSS feed dock behind some of the menus when they drop down) Not a big deal as I can always move the RSS dock, but figured I'd let you know.

Man, this is like menu bar, but on steroids. Extremely good work. I like all those configuration options you have, scrollbar on menus, different options for logo, alarm clock widget, animations... I know it took you forever to complete it.  And lots of material to learn from. I have seen it before and it inspired me to make my own skin. Great to find it again. Faving it at once :)

Now I see you have similar issues with menus I had. Menus disappear when clicking on them. It is all right when I click on menu and click out to close it. But when I click on Apps-Games-Bookmarks-Controls... it seems to work on every other one. I solved my problem by hiding all menus all the time and showing only selected when I click on it. I used RainFocus to focus selected menu so it doesn't show up under open windows. You can look at my coding for an idea if it might help you.

Thank you. Great skin once again ;)

I've done a couple of tests to try to find out what causes the drop bars to time out so fast. It seems that Rainmeter refreshes all your skins when you click on any toolbar menu. That's why you almost never have time to click on anything before the menu dissapears. I don't know what causes it and I've not enough knowledge to fix that, so I hope someone else can do it :/
Also, for some reason the buttons on the right side of the bar, like mail, weather, do not make your skins refresh

I have been hearing these reports for months, but I cannot for the life of me reproduce it. I have tried this skin on several different machines and none are having this disappearing problem. It may have something to do with the RainFocus plugin, though unless I can reproduce the problem I am hopeless to find a solution.

I think it is due to the autohide feature of the windows taskbar if you turn that off/on it works/doesn't work

Really like it but it's unusable as is, for me at least. I'm having similar issues that others have mentioned. I click a toolbar and it closes too fast for me to select anything. I went through looking for any fades or timeouts, but I'm not really a programmer so I'm sure I missed something.

Is their a way to change the apple logo to something other than what you provided? I traced the location of where you put the files, put an icon I wanted that has been scaled down to the correct size, but I can't choose it. Anybody figured it out yet?

Well done job on the launcher. Is there anyway i can incorporate how the dropdown menus behave similar to that of the settings icon? My toolbar dropdown menus timeout too fast for me to even click on a shortcut. I want them to behave how the settings menu behaves (if i where to click on it, it stays open until i click the desktop or some other thing)

Yes. You can use OnUnfocusAction= in the [Rainmeter] section of the dropdown menu to "!DeactivateConfig #CURRENTCONFIG#" or "!Hide #CURRENTCONFIG#", so that the dropdown menu disappears when you click on something other than the dropdown menu. Clicking each shortcut should also trigger a !DeactivateConfig or !Hide bang so that the dropdown menu disappears when a shortcut is launched.

Tried out this great theme but decided to not go through with it. Kind of new to Rainmeter so I don't really know how to remove this theme. I've tried unloading the skin but nothing seems to completely remove it and now it acts as if I have the top bar still enabled even though its not there and cannot maximize windows. Any help would be great thanks.

Hi, I really liked this skin, but the main thing I hated about it was that it made all maximized windows on my desktop a smaller size. I keep my taskbar hidden, and my windows would basically stretch out to where my taskbar usually was, but after I installed desktop+, it forced all of my windows to act as if the taskbar was up all the time. I thought uninstalling the skin would revert things back to normal, but so far it hasn't. Please help. I don't know how to get my windows to go back to their original maximized size again.

One thing that would be cool would be to have the hover over effect.  The windows not seen unless you have your mouse cursor hovered over it. thanks btw this has been my background for a long time find it very useful.

Anyone can do that with the transparency and fade in/out effects in the right-click context menu of any skin in Rainmeter. Right-Click >> Settings >> Transparency.

Wow. This is amazing. Very impressive for a rainmeter skin.

A few questions/suggestions though.
1. Am I simply missing it or is there no way to toggle individual things in the "system tray", without editing the skin files that is (even tried that but removing just mail killed all but clock somehow).
2. Running this skin the bar at the top in your screenshot is what I get, what is that in the bottom/bottom left of the screenshot. Looks great but couldn't find anything like that.
3. Your system tray is missing the two most basic and obvious meters for a rainmeter skin, ram and cpu usage, just saying :p

In time, all will be solved. I haven't had the time to do any major fixes lately. I'm going through temporary poverty, and need to work a lot until the money rolls into my pockets again. As for the bottom/bottom left image, it is part of the suite that was removed, but I will be converting it into its own individual suite in December. (When I have money, and time)

this is great! however i have one problem, when I click on an item in a drop down menu that is over top of another rainmeter panel, it clicks thru the item and opens up both. for example, the recycle bin menu item in "controls" sits above a steam panel i have on my desktop and both open after clicking. I am pretty sure the problem is because the menu items in your skin open on "rightmouseDOWNaction". is there any way to change them all to open on "rightmouseUPaction"? i have been searching but i can't find it anywhere. Thanks!

**I meant to say "LEFTMouseDown" not "RIGHTmousedown"***
and i figured it out to anyone who might have the same problem. open up Rainmeter\Skins\Desktop+\~resources\Meters\DropDownMeters.ini and change all instances of LeftMouseDown to LeftMouseUp.
Reply
:iconvirginityrocks:
Virginityrocks Featured By Owner Nov 17, 2013
You may encounter some problems with that solution. The reason for the items all being LeftMouseDownActions is due to the OnUnfocusAction in the [Rainmeter] section of Dropdown_Bar.ini. The LeftMouseDownAction will hide the dropdown menu. If a computer is fast enough, the dropdown menu will hide before you lift your finger to do a LeftMouseUpAction, causing no program to launch.

The solution is in the Rainmeter team allowing authors full control window focusing.

After testing it, I see what you mean. If i click on an item and hold, it disappears after a second or 2. But I think I fixed this. in Rainmeter\Skins\Desktop+\~resources\Meters\DropdownMeters.ini, I added ***MouseLeaveAction=[!Hide "#CURRENTCONFIG#"]*** under the [Rainmeter] section.
And in Rainmeter\Skins\Desktop+\DropdownBar\Background_Bar.ini, I removed ***OnUnFocusAction=[!HideFadeGroup Toolbars][!DeactivateConfigGroup Tray]***

I then made sure each dropdown toolbar was not draggable and that all seems to work perfect for me. I can now click and hold on any menu item and nothing disappears until i let go of left click or move the mouse away from the menu.

Virginityrocks Featured By Owner Nov 20, 2013
Yes, and that's the way Desktop+ use to function, but ultimately the OnUnFocusAction had superior functionality to the MouseLeaveAction, as its behaviour perfectly mimics other dropdown menus throughout the Windows OS.

I'm currently proposing that !Focus and !Unfocus bangs be made available for authors to the Rainmeter team. If you want to show support for this, go to rainmeter.net/forum/viewtopic.…

Very nice work! Please keep it up.

However, I have some questions/suggestions regarding the usability of desktop+.

Is there any way to add more than the exisiting 8 categories to the toolbar by myself?
Simply renaming and changing the links to the file locations would not be very satisfying, since I really like all of the suggested menus.

Is there any way to show sub-dropdownmenus instead of opening folders in the toolbar?
This would be a great increase to the usability of desktop+, since it could then be used to organize your files more efficiently and contributed to a more "fluid" feeling.

I also love the alarm clock feature and I wondered, whether it would be possible to add some feature to remind you of things according to a set rule or a schedule?

Is it possible to receive mails from other providers than Gmail via the built-in mail feature or connect it to email clients such as Thunderbird or similar?
